Preventive dentistry is the area of dentistry that focuses on those procedures and life practices that help people to prevent the beginning or progression of oral disease. It includes at-home dental care performed by patients, as well as dental care and education by our professional dental staff in the office. We, here at DuHamel Family Dentistry are dedicated to helping you take a proactive role in your dental health. We are staffed with very knowledgeable and skilled dental hygienists.
Types of Hygiene Care we offer:
Initial Hygiene Appointment
First appointment in our hygiene department includes a diagnostic periodontal exam, periodontal charting (recording of pocket depths, to determine any breakdown in the gum tissue attachment, and any infection present), supra-gingival and sub-gingival plaque removal, supra-gingival calculus removal, education and co-therapy instructions. A periodontal treatment plan designed for your specific needs will be recommended.
Continuing Care - Trophy (PX)
A preventative prophylaxis for a healthy mouth (no pockets greater than 4mm). This appointment includes periodontal charting, supra-gingival and sub-gingival plaque and calculus removal, polish, education and co-therapy instructions. Normally at intervals of 6 months unless otherwise recommended by your hygienist for your specific needs.
Periodontal Maintenance Therapy (PM)
Maintenance of the gum tissue in the presence of periodontal disease after a patient has undergone periodontal therapy. This appointment includes plaque and calculus removal, periodontal charting (to evaluate and monitor pocket depths), oral irrigation (if indicated), polish, review education and co-therapy instructions. Interval: as often as every 2 months or as long as 4 months between appointments depending upon each patient's response to therapy.
